Mosoq Llaqta
The excursion to the archaeological complex of Mosoq Llaqta takes all day.
Mosoq Llaqta is an old Inca town, hidden in the jungle of the Machiguenga community of Chirumbia in the sector of Quello Uno. The ruins were “discovered” recently and are not included in the traditional tourism so that they are still covered with jungle vegetation.
At 6 am we leave Chahuares in private transport. The journey to Chirumbia takes about 2,5 hours . From the village of Chirumbia we walk through coffee plantations and further on through the highlands with scarce vegetation during 2 or 3 hours. We reach virgin forest where we walk another hour to arrive finally at the ruins. Here we take our lunch and we take our time to explore the ruins.
At 3 pm we return to Chirumbia to take the car back to Chahuares.
Waterfalls of Mandor
You can find the waterfalls of Mandor at half an hour drive from Quillabamba.
We leave Chahuares at 9 am. Around 11 am we leave the car and start walking to the waterfalls. The walk takes around one hour where after we reach the waterfalls and you can take a refreshing bath. We take our lunch here and we will return to Chahuares around 3 pm.
Siete Tinajas and Zoological Parc of Pampa Concepcion
The waterfalls of Siete Tinajas are located very close to Echarati. Because of its rocks with very peculiar forms it is the major tourist sample of the municipality of Echarati.
We travel around one hour in car from Chahuares to get to the waterfalls. The waterfalls are close to the road (500m) so it is not necessary to walk a long way. There you can observe this curious waterfall and take a bath in the ponds formed by the rocks.
On the way back to Chahuares we will stop at the small zoological park of Pampa Concepcion where you can observe the wild animals of the region.
Urusayhua
The Urusayhua mountain is considered as the major Apu (god of the mountain) of this region.
During this excursion we go up the mountain up to certain part. There is no accessible road to the top so we have to limit the walk to the lower part of the mountain.
We leave Chahuares at 7 am in the morning to arrive at the foot of Urusayhua at 8 am. From there we walk through beautiful wild nature to reach some exceptional waterfalls. The jungle of Urusayhua is still wild and can show us some surprising wild animals. The walk will take about 5 hours.
In the afternoon, you can visit the ecological farm of the family Durand.
Go down the river Vilcanota on a tire (only during dry season from May to October*)
In the dry season, when the river is low and calm, you can go down the river on the tire of a truck. We take you to the riverbank in Acopampa, where we leave you in the hands of 2 experienced guides that will accompany you during one hour over the river. After this adventure, we wait for you on the beach of Chahuares with a appetizing lunch. After lunch you can relax on the beach the rest of the afternoon, swimming in the river or sunbathing on the sand in the company of a nice beer.
*You can only go down the river Vilcanota when the water is calm. It can happen that in the month of May the waters haven’t gone down enough so that we will have to cancel this activity. In the same way, the water can rise already in the month of October so that also in this month there is a possibility that this activity will be canceled.
Day 7 :
The last day, you will process the cacao (and coffee) you harvested so you will be able to take with you your own chocolate and coffee. There is also a possibility to learn about the processing of the cocaleaf into cocaflour which can be used in the making of cocaspaghetti, cocabread, cocacookies, etc.
In the afternoon, we will travel to Quillabamba where you will take public transport to Cusco.
